Are annotated selenoproteomes complete?

That depends on the genome and whether you believe that a particular genomes has been scanned properly for selenoprotein genes (see here for some references on the topic). Your best bet is to read the literature and, at the same time, take a look at the species/family chart and see whether for a given species there are genes to be annotated (squares in blue). However, sometimes the selenoproteome is complete and only Cys-containing homologs remain to be annotated. This is the case, for example, for Drosophila, Anopheles, and Caenorhabiditis.

Expect the blue squares in the chart to slowly be replaced with the actual annotation.
